Description
BuildASoil Complete Soil Building Kit was created for or those who wish to create their own soil mix using a sphagnum peat moss base. This kit includes an 8-pound bag of BuildASoil Clackamas Coots Nutrient kit, as well as a 27-pound bag of a mineral mix amendment for peat moss.
BuildASoil Clackamas Coots Nutrient Kit: 8-pounds (18 cups) of pre-mixed amendments that follows the famous recipe by Clackamas Coots, who sought out to create an affordable and reliable recipe to amend your peat moss and create your own nutritious soil mix. This amendment mix contains Crustacean Meal, Kelp Meal, Neem Cake/Karanja Cake, and Milled Malted Barley. Mixes into 9 cubic feet or roughly 70 gallons of soil.
BuildASoil Mineral Mix for Peat Moss: 27-pounds (37 cups) of a mineral blend designed to amend peat moss. Peat moss is acidic by nature, and it is highly recommended to adjust the pH to proper levels. This kit contains Basalt, Gypsum Dust, and Oyster Shell Flour. Oyster Shell Flour adds available calcium, as well as helps to raise the pH level of the peat moss to an optimal range for your plant. Mixes into 9 cubic feet or roughly 70 gallons of soil.
What you’ll need to complete the soil mix:
- 1 part peat moss
- 1 part aeration source (pumice, rice hulls, perlite, lava rock)
- 1 part high quality compost or worm castings
Instructions on how to make a soil mix using BuildASoil Complete Soil Building Kit
1.
This complete kit can be mixed into 3 cubic feet of peat moss, 3 cubic feet of an aeration source, and 3 cubic feet of high quality compost/worm castings
The recommended amount of nutrients from the Clackamas Coot Nutrient kit is 2.5 cups per cubic foot of soil
The recommended amount of minerals from the BuildASoil Mineral Mix for Peat Moss is 4 cups per cubic foot of soil
2.
Mix 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 aeration source, and 1/3 high quality compost or worm castings with the appropriate amount of nutrients and minerals.
After amending the peat moss and mixing ingredients, it is important to let the soil sit for 1-2 weeks before planting directly into it.
3.
After planting into this soil mix, Clackamas Coot recommends topdressing a 1-2″ layer of worm castings or compost, then watering with an aloe vera juice and comfrey/horsetail/nettle extract depending on what’s available and what stage of growth the plant is in.
